What is SFL

Gryffe High School aims to meet the needs of all our pupils and build on their individual strengths as they progress throughout the school, making them confident individuals, successful learners, effective contributors and responsible citizens.

A variety of learning situations are made available to pupils, especially those with Additional Support Needs. These pupils are also monitored closely through a robust Whole School Tracking and Monitoring system and through Reporting or the Extended Support Team.

The Department works closely with our associated primary schools, Houston Primary School and Bridge of Weir Primary School and St Fillan’s, in order to gather information and ensure continuity of progression for all pupils. Meetings are held with parents and pupils on a regular basis and parents are informed of any formal assessment.

Miss Fiona Brown, Principal Teacher of Support for Learning, co-ordinates the support given to pupils who have Additional Support Needs. The Department also consists of Mrs Sheena Costello, who is Principal Teacher of Wellbeing, two part-time Support for Learning Teachers as well as four Additional Support Needs Assistants and two Classroom Assistants.

There is also an Extended Support Team including the rest of the Pupil Support Team (four Guidance Teachers and two Attainment Principal Teachers), Depute Head Mr Kevin Christie, who is the school’s Pupil Support Co-ordinator, Peripatetic Specialists (English as an Additional Language or Hearing Impairment/Visual Impairment), Psychological Services, three Homelink staff, the Senior Management Team, a Transition Teacher, an Employability Project Leader, an Achievements Project Leader and an SDS Careers Advisor.

Examinations

Prior to SQA examinations, the Support for Learning Department offers, where necessary, special Examination Arrangements for pupils with long or short term Additional Support Needs. This ensures that all pupils meet their full potential. We are hoping to move towards using more ICT to support in exams.
